J. B. Foerster Society

The J. B. Foerster Society was founded in 1919 on the occasion of the composer's sixtieth birthday.
In the original by-laws, the society's objectives are "to promote and disseminate the musical arts, and in particular contemporary music, by means of concert production, music publishing and distribution, lectures" and other activities. The first president of the association was composer Otakar Ostrčil.
In the ensuing years, thanks to the Foerster Society, works by Bedřich Smetana, Otakar Ostrčil, Rudolf Karel, Otakar Jeremiáš and others, including of course works by Foerster himself, were published.
Today, the Society has as its main objective the promotion of works by Josef Bohuslav Foerster, in particular the dissemination of overlooked or unpublished works.
